Management at Cardno

7.5
7.5 rating for Management, based on 22 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Managers do the best they can. Internal feedback usually consists of emails or verbal conversations with markups. Performance is measured annually and we have a face-to-face meeting (teleconference during COVID-19).

My line manager is great, beyond that it gets a little distant

Our managers are like our equals, there's never a barrier they're always up for a chat either work or non-work related. My manager praises me also too much but also expects a lot from me, we have a mutual understanding and a solid feedback loop

This one depends on you ends up being your manager/mentor. I've had two really different experiences so far, with my first manager being really technically knowledgeable, and once you got him he'd spend however long it was making sure you fully understood what was going on, however he'd often be hard to reach and sometimes difficult to approach. My current manager is just as technically proficient, however he will always personally reach out to me and will always be quick to respond with any questions I have, taking a similar amount of time to explain things to me. So far the professional development side has been lacking, and I haven't had an official review of my work, but I'm always receiving feedback as I go along, so that doesn't really bother me. I'd say a lot of it is to do with how willing you are to step out of your comfort zone and reach out for help and make sure they know you're keen to learn.

Managers are very nice and very approachable. There are team meetings every week to let the team know of any news and to see how the team is going in regards to work.

Fantastic people within my team.

Direct managers have always been very accessible. I have met great individuals who can mentor me as well. Again, it's all task based. Hit your tasks and the appropriate time frame and you're good. Mentors are great for guiding and relating to experiences we experience as grads

My Business Unit Manager is my direct report and he is fantastic and very supportive. I have multiple technical leads through the Sydney W&E team that are great for different reasons. It has been beneficial having diversity in my mentorship.

From my perspective, there may be some disconnect between upper management and employees. I don't think as graduates we can easily communicate to those who are in upper management

I have the best manager that I have ever had in any job. He is an amazing mentor and always makes himself available, no matter how busy he is. I have learnt so much with him this past couple of years.
