Pros & Cons

  • Working with bright and kind people is the best work for great clients.
  • The people! Everyone is really nice and welcoming. There isn't the snobby pretentious stereotype that is expected at a big six law firm. Level 60 Cafe is also incredible.
  • The people are super friendly and welcoming, and it's such a great learning environment.
  • Very respectful and diverse environment where everyone is a pleasure to work with and seniors are genuinely interested in your learning and development. Strong sense of community with fellow graduates. Challenging but very interesting work. Good support network for graduates.
  • Great environment. Lots of support. Very engaging work and engaged colleagues. A graduate cohort. Pay.
  • The hours can sometimes be long, but you expect that from any top-tier law firm.
  • I'm really not sure. Maybe the hours?
  • The hours can be long and the workload heavy.
  • The office could be nicer.
  • Managing expectations.

The graduate program is quite structured. There are no promotion possibilities at this stage. However, promotions are available once we have completed the program.

I think it's good, but I don't know much about it.

In the office, everyone is very professional and kind. We work together to get our work done. My colleagues are also my friends. I see some socially on Friday nights and exercise with some before or after work.

Yes, they tend to be quite accessible and very good mentors who are happy to give you a lot of their time to teach you. Internal praise and recognition are quite good. Performance feedback is regular.

Office space is open-plan with great views. The changerooms are really nice, and the cafe is delicious and reasonably priced. The dress code is "dress for your day," which is actually relatively relaxed—no need to dress up unless going to court or meeting a client.

Recruitment

Recruitment
The first step was an application, which included an email assessment task. There was no psychometric testing. The first-round interview was with a partner and another employee, and the second-round interview was with a partner and included a conversation with graduates where you could ask any questions.

Training

Training
The formal training has been very thorough and good. We had a one-month intensive PLT, which was beneficial because it alleviated the workload at the start of our rotations. The induction sessions were informative and practical. And team-specific sessions have been particularly helpful since they delve much deeper into the substance of some of the work done. Informal training has been particularly good since the seniors on the team take the time to explain feedback and run specific training sessions for the grads.

Work Hours
Work hours are good (though I know they are team-dependent and are much worse elsewhere). My team does not expect me to be there if there is no work to be done. Work-life balance is good, and team members don't work weekends and generally have young families.
