Pros & Cons

  • The best thing about working at WRG is the people. We have an intelligent, friendly and supportive team who always make you feel at home. We also work with a wide range of clients who present new and interesting legal problems every day.
  • Great opportunities to be mentored by the Partners and the senior personnel at the firm, who all stand by the values of the firm and lead from the top.
  • The expertise of your colleagues is considerable and presents an enriching environment to develop good habits, skills, and knowledge in practice.
  • The best thing about working at WRG is the environment and people. The team here is filled with people from many different walks of life who are intelligent, welcoming, and committed to doing the best work for themselves and their clients. The workgroup teams are extremely supportive and will assist graduates in their legal development and careers.
  • The firm is extremely resourceful and offers every opportunity to gain further training and/or make new connections to benefit personal and professional goals.
  • One downside of working at WRG as a graduate is you generally work in one or two areas of law. Those areas of law are very broad, however, if you want to be a generalist lawyer it doesn't give you that experience.
  • Your exposure to different areas of law outside your main practice area is limited.
  • A downside of working at WRG is that there is little to no opportunity to work in or experience different areas once you are employed in a particular area.
  • Law can be competitive and you are constantly being compared to others in the workplace.
  • Adjusting from university life to work life (not specific to my company).

Our company has an excellent culture! Many employees enjoy lunch together (whether in the lunch room or at one of the surrounding cafes/restaurants) and we always enjoy a drink together on a Friday evening to end the week.  Everyone is always willing and able to assist with any issues one may have, whether it be work-related or more personal. This makes it a very comfortable workplace to be a part of.

I firstly had an interview with the Managing Partner of the firm to assess my suitability for a period of Work Experience. I undertook a period of this and once completed, applied for the Graduate Position starting the following year. I then sat a second interview with the Managing Partner and another Partner of the firm before I was then offered the position.  The firm also undertakes yearly performance reviews as a way to monitor your progress and discuss your ongoing strengths and weaknesses.

Work Hours
My work hours are 8:30-5. At this stage I am managing my work enough to get here just before 8:30 and leave just after 5. When I know I have extra work to do I will arrive early or stay back late. w/r/g understands that you are a person as well as a professional, and as long as work is getting done, they are understandable when hours need to be adjusted for things such as travel or appointments.
