What it does: We own and operate energy generation facilities across southern Australia.

Mission: We're working on new ideas to provide affordable, clean energy for all. But challenges like this aren't solved by one person alone. So we're building teams of creative and innovative thinkers to tackle the problems, big and small in new ways.

Size and presence: We have 2,500 employees across Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, with contact center operations in the Melbourne CBD, Geelong, India and the Philippines.

Best known for: Energy Australia is best known for supplying electricity and gas to its customers throughout Australia. Energy Australia is an electricity generation, electricity and gas retailing private company in Australia that is owned by Hong Kong-based and listed CLP Group.

The good bits: Motivating culture and great collaboration.

The not-so-good bits: The job is hard and a lot of calls coming through.

The Energy Australia story

We know our business can have impacts on the environment and the community. Today communities rightly expect big companies to operate responsibly and sustainably. At EnergyAustralia, we believe any decision we make or any project we do should be socially and environmentally acceptable. When we commit to working that way we’re also committing to being a good neighbour.

Listening to our stakeholders, minimizing our impact on the environment, working safely and providing economic opportunities for local businesses and workers are just some of the things we do so our operations are sustainable.

Cathedral Rocks is located near the southern tip of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, approximately 30km southwest of Port Lincoln. Situated on private farming land, the site covers about 29km², with a coastal exposure of nearly 11km. The wind farm consists of 33 wind turbines (2MW each), each having a blade diameter of 80 meters, erected on 60-meter towers. The wind turbines were supplied by Danish manufacturer, Vestas. Development began in July 2004 and the wind farm became fully operational in May 2007.

Cathedral Rocks wind farm is a joint-venture project between EnergyAustralia and Acciona Energy. Both companies have 50% equity in the wind farm and asset management services are provided by Acciona.

EnergyAustralia, one of Australia’s leading energy retailers, today said it emitted 18.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) from the direct generation of electricity for the 12 months ended 30 June 2021.

Recruitment process

Application

First, there’s a short form you need to complete online and upload your resume (so make sure you have it ready to go with up-to-date contact details). You can attach a cover letter if you want. You’ll get an email acknowledging your application has been received.

Resume review

We’ll review your resume to see how your experience matches the requirements of the role. If you’re unsuccessful at this stage, we’ll let you know by email, but we won’t be able to give you detailed feedback at this stage.

Online assessment

If you’ve applied for a role with our contact centre, you’ll need to complete an online assessment to help see whether this is the right role for you.

Phone interview

If you look like a good fit, we can find out a bit more about each other in a phone interview. We’ll ask about your experience, qualifications and salary expectations.

Personal interview

If you’re successful at the phone interview, there’ll either be a face-to-face interview or a meeting at an engagement centre. You’ll meet your potential new manager and find out more about the role and working with us. Remember to prepare questions about what you want to know. This is your chance to check if we’re the right fit for you too.

Background checks

Should you progress to the next stage, we’ll ask for referees and do some background checking. If possible, referees should be people to who you reported directly in recent roles.

The offer

Once the checks are complete we’ll call you and let you know the outcome. If you’re successful (Yay!) you’ll be able to accept your offer online. We’ll keep you in the loop so you have everything you need by the day you start.

Career prospects

The wide range of activities that EnergyAustralia engages in means we have so much to offer in so many different areas. Opportunities to learn and grow. To reach and exceed your career goals. Your success is what our success is built on. You’ll work hard. You’ll be challenged. And rewarded. We encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Put up your hand, and we’ll support you with training and career progression. Who knows where it’ll take you? The first step on your journey starts here.

We offer competitive remuneration and rewards based on your role. And how well you contribute. We work hard. But we have fun too. There are opportunities to develop relationships with colleagues from across the business. So if you want your work to mean something as well as earning an income, we’d love to have you onboard at EnergyAustralia.

Remuneration

Electricity and gas major EnergyAustralia will spend $1.2 million to close the pay gap between women and men in equivalent jobs, with managing director Cath Tanna saying she is sorry it has not happened sooner. "I'm 56, I've been working for 35 years and I can't believe that in 2018 we are still talking about things like the gender pay gap, so I'm pleased that at EnergyAustralia we have taken this step," Ms. Tanna said while noting there was more to do to get more women in higher-paying roles running power plants.

The move, announced for International Women's Day, will mean larger-than-usual pay increases for about 350 women at the Hong Kong-owned, Melbourne-based company, and also for about 80 min. The one-off gain is about $3500 on average, with no one taking a cut to help level up the current 2 percent imbalance. EnergyAustralia chairman Graham Bradley and managing director Cath Tanna say there is still work to do on gender equality. Jesse MarlowChairman Graham Bradley said it was an easy decision given the "relatively modest" sum required compared to the total wages bill.
