Recruitment Process

Launching your career at Dicker Data

If you have a passion for technology and are keen to kick off your career in a professional environment that is comprised of driven and supportive teams, here are some tips on applying for a role with Dicker Data.

Finding the right role for you

If a role piques your interest, read through the position description, paying particular attention to any academic requirements, desired skills and preferred attributes. It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the role’s key responsibilities so that you can assess whether your skills and personality are suitably aligned. We encourage you to do some research on Dicker Data so that you can get a feel for what we do, our culture and values, and whether our company meets your own career and lifestyle needs.

Hints & Tips: If you don’t think you meet all of the role’s criteria, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply. If you are open to learning new skills and express a genuine passion to succeed in the role and with Dicker Data, then we would love to hear from you.

Online application

The first stage of the recruitment process will involve completing an online application form. You will be required to upload your resume as well as a cover letter outlining what interests you about the role and why you believe you would be a suitable fit for the role and for the company.

Hints & Tips: We understand that you are in the early stages of your career and that you may not have prior experience in the professional world. Consider showcasing your skills by outlining on your resume any academic achievements, your involvement in sporting and/or social groups and other notable accomplishments. A cover letter is your chance to create a great first impression. Show off your personality and enthusiasm for the role and focus on your hard and soft skills such as attention to detail, time management, and relationship building.

Phone screen

The phone screen is the next important part of the recruitment process. Once we have reviewed your application, and feel you are a suitable candidate, you will be contacted by our People & Culture team. We will ask you 4-5 questions so that we can better gauge your potential fit between your skills, interests and personality with the role and Dicker Data. This is a quick chat and should last around 10 minutes. This can also be a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

Hints & Tips: We recommend you are in a quiet environment where you will not be disturbed during your phone screen interview. When we call you, don’t be afraid to tell the recruiter if it is an inconvenient time to talk so that arrangements can be made to call you back at a more suitable time.

Interview

If you have a successful phone screen, we will invite you to attend a scheduled interview which will be conducted either face-to-face or online via Microsoft Teams. Interviews will typically run for 30-45 minutes and will usually involve the hiring manager and a member from our People & Culture team. You will be asked questions designed to help us get to know you better and may include behavioural-based questions that require you to share examples of how you acted in a specific situation. Remember, the interview process is an opportunity for you to assess whether the role and company is the right fit for you too!

Hints & Tips: If you are attending a face-to-face interview, we encourage you to be well presented and arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled interview time. It is useful to do some prior research on how to get to your interview and allow adequate travel time. Know the names of the people you will be meeting. If your interview will be held online, it is helpful to be in a quiet environment and ensure there is suitable background lighting that is not too bright or dark.

Reference checks

If we identify you as a potential candidate, our People & Culture team will conduct a reference check. You will be required to provide contact details of one referee so that we can call them to verify your character, skills and experiences as provided in your application and interview. Your referee can include lecturers, tutors and past employers. You could also consider a leader or mentor of a community or sporting group that you belong to.

Hints & Tips: Reach out to your referee to ensure they are comfortable with providing you with a reference and always seek permission to share their details. It’s a good idea to let your referee know the role you have applied for and that they should expect a call from us.

The outcome of your application

Once all candidates have been interviewed, our People & Culture team will contact you to either offer you a role with Dicker Data or to provide feedback on why you were unsuccessful in this instance. We will be able to give you advice on potential areas of improvement for you to consider when applying for your next role.

Remuneration & Career Growth

You can expect to be paid a competitive starting salary with regular increases as your role and skill sets develop throughout your career at Dicker Data. Our people are our biggest assets and we believe in rewarding our talent for their performance and dedication.

Depending on your role, you may receive a monthly, quarterly or biannual bonus or commission component in addition to your annual salary. Superannuation is paid on top of your salary and commission or bonus.

Dicker Data is continually evolving and this presents new opportunities for advancement to grow within your role, to take on new responsibilities, transfer laterally or be promoted into more senior positions. Opportunities to travel, get involved in new initiatives and to make your mark on a market-leading ASX-listed organisation await you at all levels within Dicker Data.
